Opened by the American Bar Association in November 1996, the ABA Museum of Law in Chicago was the only national museum focused on the role of law and the legal profession in America and around the world. It aimed to engage the public with the legal system and show its relevance to everyday life.
To build understanding of lawyers and their work, the museum highlighted well-known trials and lawyers who became famous for other work. It closed in late 2011, reportedly to cut costs.
