Paintings and sculpture from Romanticism to the present share one roof at the Albertinum, which houses two collections of the Dresden State Art Collections: the New Masters Gallery (Galerie Neue Meister) and the Sculpture Collection (Skulpturensammlung). Together they cover some 200 years of art, making the museum a natural stop for visitors interested in modern art across both media.
Founded in 1887 and named after King Albert of Saxony, the museum occupies a sandstone-clad Renaissance Revival building on Brühl's Terrace in Dresden's historic centre. It is listed as a protected cultural monument.
