No museum in North America devoted to a single artist is larger than the Andy Warhol Museum. On Pittsburgh's North Shore, it fills seven floors and 17 galleries with the art and archives of Andy Warhol, the pop art icon who was born in the city.
The permanent collection spans every medium Warhol worked in. It includes about 900 paintings, close to 2,000 works on paper, more than 1,000 published unique prints, 77 sculptures and some 4,000 photographs. Its holdings of more than 4,350 films and videotaped works make it especially suited to visitors who want to see Warhol beyond his paintings.
Founded in 1994, with John Warhola among its founders, the museum is one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. It was created as a collaboration between the Carnegie Institute, the Dia Art Foundation and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. It draws roughly a hundred thousand visitors a year.
