Twelve tapestries depicting the months of the year, the Trivulzio Tapestries (Arazzi Trivulzio), hang in the Sala della Balla of the Applied Arts Collection. Their designs are based on drawings by the Italian painter Bramantino. The collection, signed in Italian as Raccolte d'Arte Applicata, is part of the Sforza Castle museum complex and is managed by the municipality of Milan.
The museum is arranged in several sections, with particular emphasis on jewellery, ivories, pottery and art glass. The ceramics span medieval, Renaissance and Baroque pottery and include a group of maiolica from 17th-century Lodi and Milan, alongside European chinaware and earthenware. Among the glass is the Gonzaga Cup. It is made of clear crystal glass and decorated with small golden flowers and the Gonzaga coat of arms, quartered with a black eagle on a white ground.
Founded in 1878 and listed as Italian national heritage, the collection suits visitors drawn to the decorative arts and to craftsmanship in glass, ceramics and textiles.
