The art collection assembled by Sir William Burrell and Constance, Lady Burrell, forms the whole of this Glasgow museum. It is run by Glasgow Museums as a local authority museum.
The museum first opened in 1983, and its building, whose architects include Brit Andresen, is a category A listed building, Scotland's highest grade of protection for buildings of special interest. After a major refurbishment, it reopened in March 2022 and was named Art Fund Museum of the Year in July 2023.
