A dome show tracing the history of science in Egypt is the centerpiece of the Child Museum, formally the Children's Civilization and Creativity Center (متحف الطفل بالقاهرة). This museum and cultural center in Heliopolis covers 4,000 square meters within a landscaped site of about 14 acres, and was built for the benefit of all the children of Egypt.
Its exhibits are made for children and young adults to learn by doing, through hands-on displays, interactive pieces and computer games. Experts from Egypt, the UK and the USA designed the museum, museum specialists from around the world built it, and Egyptian and international museums and institutions contributed to the work.
The Heliopolis Society established the museum in 1986, and it was renovated in 1996 and again in 2012. In May 2012 it won the UK's Museum and Heritage International Award. It draws around 400,000 visitors a year and suits children and young adults most of all.
