A high-wire bike, a laminar flow fountain and an experiment bar are among the more than 250 interactive exhibits at ¡Explora! Science Center and Children's Museum, near Old Town Albuquerque. The name is the imperative form of the Spanish verb explorar, "to explore," and the museum takes a hands-on, inquiry-based approach to science, math and art.
The exhibits fill about 20,000 square feet across two floors and cover a broad range of science, technology and art, with an arts and crafts area alongside the experiments. The building also holds a performance theater, educational program areas, a gift store and the museum's own workshop, where exhibits are made in-house. As a children's museum built around touching and testing things, it suits families with children.
Explora is a member of the Association of Science-Technology Centers. In 2013 it co-hosted that organization's annual conference in Albuquerque with the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science and the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History.
