Housed in Buda Castle, the Hungarian National Gallery (Magyar Nemzeti Galéria) is the national art museum of Hungary, with collections devoted to Hungarian art in all genres. Among its holdings are works by many nineteenth- and twentieth-century Hungarian artists who worked in Paris and elsewhere in the West.
Founded in 1957, the gallery concentrates on the nation's own art, which makes it the place for visitors interested in Hungarian painting and other art forms. Budapest's main collection of international art is at the Museum of Fine Arts.
