The Lajkonik costume, a 16th-century silver rooster belonging to the Fowler Brotherhood, and a life-size Kraków nativity scene are among the city emblems on display at Krzysztofory Palace, the headquarters of the Museum of Kraków (Muzeum Krakowa) since 1965.
The palace's exhibition traces Kraków's history from the mythical King Krakus to modern times, and its final section changes to reflect events in the city. Objects tied to local institutions include the 16th-century ring and sceptre of Kraków's mayors and the 18th-century counter of the Kraków Merchant Congregation. There are also traditional nativity scenes, mascarons and works by Jan Matejko, Józef Mehoffer, Zofia Stryjeńska, Jacek Malczewski, Wojciech Weiss and Wlastimil Hoffman.
The palace's historic interiors also hold a library and archive, educational spaces and a conference hall. They host concerts, literary meetings, debates, lessons and workshops, so the building suits visitors interested in the city's culture as well as its past.
