Meli Park was not a museum but an amusement park, begun in 1935 by the Belgian honey producer Meli beside its works in Adinkerke, near De Panne on the Flemish coast. Bees and honey were the original draw, and the park grew into one of Belgium's best-known family attractions, drawing more than 600,000 visitors a year. In 2000, after its sale to the entertainment company Studio 100, it was rebranded as Plopsaland De Panne, the theme park that occupies the site today.
