Photography is the core of the Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow, known by its initials MAMM (МАММ on signs). It grew out of the Moscow House of Photography, founded in 1996 by the art historian Olga Sviblova, and took its current name as its scope widened to video, installation and other new media.
The museum's collection centres on Russian and Soviet photography from the nineteenth century to the present. Its galleries are known for a changing programme of shows rather than a fixed permanent display, mixing historical Russian photography with international photographers and contemporary artists. MAMM is also closely associated with the Moscow Photobiennale, which it has organised since its early years.
The museum draws more than two million visitors a year. It suits anyone interested in photography, documentary images of Russian life or contemporary visual art.
