A collection of just sixteen objects, all concerned with the souls of Purgatory, fills the Museo delle Anime del Purgatorio (Museum of the Souls of Purgatory). In Catholic teaching, Purgatory is the state in which souls are purified after death before entering heaven. The museum occupies the vestry of the Chiesa del Sacro Cuore del Suffragio, at 12 Lungotevere Prati in Rome.
Victor Jouët founded this small religious museum in 1917. It is listed as Italian national heritage and draws around 25,000 visitors a year.
