Housed inside Oxford Town Hall on St Aldate's Street, the Museum of Oxford (MOX) tells the story of the city and its people. Its permanent and temporary displays bring together artefacts spanning Oxford's history from prehistoric times to the present day.
Founded in 1975 and run by the local authority, the museum is also a public meeting space, rented by people and organisations for both public and private events. It hosts frequent public talks by historians and local cultural organisations.
The museum's programme reaches a wide range of audiences, with organised school visits, family activities, adult learning workshops and a programme for older people. It suits visitors curious about Oxford as a place where people have lived and worked, as well as local families and community groups.
