The National Museum of Art of Romania (Muzeul Național de Artă al României) occupies the Royal Palace on Revolution Square in central Bucharest. Its galleries bring together art from Romania's own past and the international collection assembled by the Romanian royal family.
The holdings number around 70,000 items. Medieval and modern Romanian art forms one side of the museum, and the royal family's collection of works from beyond Romania forms the other. The museum was founded in 1948 and serves as a national museum. It also stages temporary exhibitions, and in the past these have included large shows of European painting.
