The National Museum of Malaysia, known locally as Muzium Negara, has a façade that combines traditional Malay elements with modern features. Designed by the architect Ho Kok Hoe and listed as a national historic building, the three-storey structure stretches nearly 110 metres in length and rises to almost 38 metres at its central point. It was inaugurated on 31 August 1963.
The museum is dedicated to Malaysian art, culture and history. Its four main galleries cover ethnology and natural history, including geology. Free-standing tableaux depict cultural occasions such as weddings and festivals. Other displays cover costumes, traditional weapons, musical instruments, arts and crafts, ceramics, and flora and fauna.
The museum stands on Jalan Damansara, close to the Perdana Lake Gardens and across from KL Sentral station.
