Named after General Władysław Sikorski, the Polish Institute and Sikorski Museum (Instytut Polski i Muzeum im. Gen. Sikorskiego) is a leading museum and archive for research into Poland during the Second World War and into the Polish diaspora. Founded in 1945, it is a military museum and learned society run as a non-governmental organisation by scholars from the Polish community in the United Kingdom.
The institute occupies 20 Prince's Gate, part of a Grade II listed Victorian terrace on Kensington Road facing Hyde Park. The terrace belongs to the same development by Charles James Freake as the nearby Polish Hearth Club. In 1988 the institute merged with the formerly independent Polish Underground Movement (1939–1945) Study Trust, bringing the study of Poland's wartime underground into the same organisation. Its archive makes it particularly suited to researchers and to visitors with an interest in Polish wartime history.
