Founded in 1925 by the collector George Hewitt Myers, the Textile Museum is devoted to the artistic merits and cultural importance of the world's textiles. Today it shares its home with a second subject, the history of George Washington University, under the combined name George Washington University Museum and Textile Museum. It is located in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood.
For most of its history the museum occupied two historic buildings in the Kalorama neighborhood: the Myers family home, designed by John Russell Pope, and an adjacent building by Waddy Wood. It reopened in Foggy Bottom in March 2015 as part of the university. The museum suits visitors interested in textile arts from around the world.
