Built on the former site of the army headquarters in Seoul's Yongsan district, the War Memorial of Korea (전쟁기념관) exhibits and memorializes the military history of Korea. It opened in 1994 with a stated purpose of preventing war through the lessons of the Korean War, and in hope of the peaceful reunification of North and South Korea.
Inside the memorial building, six exhibition rooms display war memorabilia. An outdoor exhibition area shows military equipment from Korea and its wartime allies, alongside equipment captured from communist forces. The combination of indoor galleries and large hardware outdoors makes the memorial especially suited to visitors interested in the Korean War and the wider military history of the peninsula.
