Zagreb Zoo (Zoološki vrt Grada Zagreba) occupies 7 hectares inside Maksimir Park and is one of only three zoo parks in Croatia. Founded in 1925 by Mijo Filipović, it belongs to both the European and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It also takes part in the European Endangered Species Programme, which coordinates the breeding of threatened animals among European zoos.
