At 91 metres, the Belfry of Ghent (Belfort van Gent) is the tallest belfry in Belgium. It is one of three medieval towers that rise over the old city centre, alongside those of Saint Bavo's Cathedral and Saint Nicholas' Church.
The tower dates from 1313 and is credited to the architect Jan van Haelst. It is built in the Gothic style, specifically Brabantine Gothic, a regional form of Gothic architecture from the Low Countries. The belfry is a protected monument and holds recognition as a museum in Flanders. Together with its attached buildings, it belongs to the Belfries of Belgium and France, a group of towers listed jointly as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
