Porcelain, bronzes, jade and Buddhist statues from imperial China fill the Capital Museum (首都博物馆), Beijing's public municipal art museum in Xicheng District. The large collection also includes calligraphy, painting and sculpture, and it extends beyond China to works from other Asian cultures. It suits visitors who want to see a broad range of traditional Chinese art forms in one place.
The museum opened in 1981, and part of its collection was once housed in the Confucius Temple on Guozijian Street. Since 2006 it has occupied its present purpose-built home.
