The Hong Kong Space Museum's hemispherical building holds the only planetarium in Hong Kong. Opened on 8 October 1980, this public museum of astronomy and space science is run by the Hong Kong Government's Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
The main exhibition areas are in a building next to the planetarium dome. Their displays cover the Solar System, cosmology and spaceflight, so the museum suits visitors with an interest in astronomy and space exploration.
The museum sits in Tsim Sha Tsui, reached from Salisbury Road. It stands beside the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower. The Hong Kong Science Museum and the Hong Kong Museum of History are also in Tsim Sha Tsui.
