Housed in one of the buildings of Kyiv's early centralised water-supply system, built in the middle of the 19th century, the Kyiv Water Museum is devoted to the city's water and how it is supplied, treated and used. Its official name is the Water-Information Centre. The building, in Khreshchatyi Park, is listed as an architectural monument and a monument of urban planning of local significance.
Founded in 2003, the centre is an educational institution focused on water resources and their sensible consumption. The exhibition traces the history of Kyiv's water supply and explains how water and waste water are treated in the city today. It also shows the role water plays in people's activities. Much of this is presented through interactive examples, which suit visitors who like to learn hands-on.
The centre ranks among the most attended cultural institutions in Kyiv and had welcomed more than one and a half million visitors by 2014.
