Founded on March 1, 1844, the Maryland Center for History and Culture is the oldest cultural institution in the state of Maryland. Known until recently as the Maryland Historical Society, it was founded by George W. Dobbin and has its home in Baltimore.
The organization collects, preserves and interprets objects and materials that reflect Maryland's diverse heritage. Alongside its history museum, it runs a library, offers educational programs and publishes scholarly work on Maryland, so it suits both general visitors and researchers interested in the state's past.
