MOCAK, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Kraków (Muzeum Sztuki Współczesnej w Krakowie), stands on a demolished part of Oskar Schindler's factory, about three kilometres from the city centre. Its neomodern building, designed by Claudio Nardi and opened in 2011, exists to present and support contemporary art and artists, with a particular focus on art from the last two decades.
The permanent exhibition fills the first floor, and temporary exhibitions occupy the second. The collection includes works by Polish and international artists such as AES+F, Krzysztof Wodiczko, Beat Streuli, Ragnar Kjartansson, Robert Kuśmirowski, Tomasz Bajer, Krištof Kintera, Maria Stangret and Edward Dwurnik. The exhibition space is divided into several sections and covers about 4,000 square metres, within a building of 10,000 square metres.
Beyond the galleries, the museum has a library, a bookshop and a café, as well as a laboratory for conserving contemporary art. Its focus makes it best suited to visitors interested in recent art rather than historical collections.
