Built in 1530 under Friar Juan de Zumárraga on the base of a destroyed pyramid dedicated to the Aztec god Tezcatlipoca, the former Palacio del Arzobispado (Palace of the Archbishopric) now houses the Museo de la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público, the art museum of Mexico's Finance Ministry, in the historic center of Mexico City. The building is also the site of the miracle of the roses of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The palace served as the archbishopric until 1867, when the Finance Ministry's Accountancy Department moved in. The museum itself was founded in 1957. Today it holds a large art collection alongside an exhibit devoted to Tezcatlipoca, the god whose pyramid once stood on this ground.
