Coins were once struck in the colonial-era building that now houses Mexico City's National Museum of World Cultures (Museo Nacional de las Culturas del Mundo). Before the mint, the site held Moctezuma's Black House.
Unlike most national museums, which focus on one country, this one is dedicated to teaching about the world's cultures, both past and present. The mint moved to Apartado Street in 1850, and the building served various purposes until its conversion into the museum in 1966.
