The Museu de Arte Popular, Lisbon's museum of folk art, occupies a building first designed by Veloso Reis and João Simões as the popular life pavilion of the Portuguese World Exhibition in 1940. After the exhibition the pavilion was refurbished, in 1948, and it is now classified as a Monument of Public Interest, one of Portugal's heritage designations. The museum drew about 8,000 visitors in 2022, a modest number for a Lisbon museum.
