For more than eight decades before it had a museum, the Fine Arts University Center of São Paulo was building a collection of art and historical material. That collection dates back to 1925, when the school was founded as the Academy of Fine Arts of São Paulo. MuBA, the Museum of Fine Arts of São Paulo, now conserves, documents, studies and exhibits it.
The museum opened in 2007 in the Vila Mariana neighborhood. It is a university museum attached to this private institution of higher learning and is sustained by the School of Fine Arts Foundation of São Paulo (FEBASP). Alongside the historical collection, MuBA presents the scientific and cultural work produced at the university through temporary exhibitions and a range of educational activities.
