Spread across five annexes in historic buildings and designated heritage sites, the Museum of Sarajevo (Muzej Sarajeva), also known as the Museum of the City of Sarajevo, is devoted to the history and culture of the city. Its main home is the villa of Kosta Hörmann, a 19th-century Bosnian biographer, at Josipa Štadlera 32 in the Stari Grad municipality.
The annexes are Svrzo's House, Despić's House, the Brusa Bezistan, the Museum of the Jews of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Museum of Sarajevo 1878–1918. Each operates in its own historic location. Founded in 1949, the museum has several departments and is run by the Public Institution Museum of Sarajevo. Its focus on Sarajevo itself makes it best suited to visitors who want to understand the city's own past.
