The Museum of the Nation (Museo de la Nación) occupies a brutalist building in Lima's San Borja District that was originally built as a government complex. It opened as a public art and history museum in 1990.
The museum was assembled to cover the entirety of Peru's history, with thousands of artifacts including Moche, Nazca and Wari ceramics. Alongside these originals it presented reproductions of famous ancient Andean works: the Lanzón from Chavín de Huantar, a recreation of the burial chamber of the Lord of Sipán, and the Revolt of the Objects Mural. Together these made it a broad survey of the country's past, suited to visitors interested in Peruvian history and the ancient cultures of the Andes.
