Founded in 1914, the Norwegian Maritime Museum (Norsk Maritimt Museum) is both a museum of Norway's seafaring history and a specialized archive. It is run in conjunction with the Norwegian Folk Museum.
The museum stands on Bygdøynesveien on the Bygdøy peninsula, on the western side of Oslo. Its neighbours include the Fram Museum, the Kon-Tiki Museum, the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History and the Viking Ship Museum, so it sits within one of the city's densest clusters of museums.
