Ancient and medieval coins, old and modern Ukrainian banknotes and antique pottery of the Northern Black Sea region share the displays at the Odesa Numismatics Museum (Одеський музей нумізматики). Founded in 1999, this currency museum preserves and exhibits relics from the Northern Black Sea Region and Rus-Ukraine.
The exhibition at 33 Hretska Street in central Odesa sets the coins and banknotes alongside fine art of Kievan Rus', the medieval state centred on Kyiv. It suits visitors interested in money and in the ancient and medieval past of the region.
The museum has concentrated on adding to, preserving and studying historical relics and the cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people. That work has earned it awards from the Ukrainian Parliament, the Government, the National Bank of Ukraine and the authorities of the Odesa region and city. It also maintains contacts with scientific, historical and cultural organizations in 100 countries.
