Folk architecture and craftwork from many regions of Georgia are gathered in the open air at this Tbilisi museum, known in full as the Giorgi Chitaia Open Air Museum of Ethnography. As an open-air museum, it displays its examples of traditional buildings and crafts outdoors rather than in conventional galleries.
The museum takes its name from Giorgi Chitaia, the Georgian ethnographer who founded it on 27 April 1966. Since December 2004 it has been run as part of the Georgian National Museum.
