The Netherlands' national reference collection of smoking pipes, tobacco and related paraphernalia belongs to the Amsterdam Pipe Museum, formerly known by its Dutch name, Pijpenkabinet ("pipe cabinet"). Founded in 1969, the museum is devoted entirely to the objects people have used for smoking.
Its permanent exhibition shows more than 2,000 items, from pipes to smoking utensils. They come from all parts of the world and span some 25 centuries, showing how widely the forms of the pipe have varied across cultures and eras.
