The first planetarium in Brazil and Latin America, the Professor Aristóteles Orsini Planetarium opened in January 1957 in Ibirapuera Park. It is also widely known as the Ibirapuera Planetarium (Planetário do Ibirapuera), and it takes its formal name from Aristóteles Orsini.
The building was designed by the architects Roberto Tibau, Eduardo Corona and Antonio Carlos Pitombo. It is one of three planetariums in São Paulo, alongside the Carmo Planetarium and the Johannes Kepler Planetarium at Sabina Escola Parque do Conhecimento.
