Patchwork, appliqué and quilting are the focus of the Quilt Museum and Gallery, an art museum in York founded in 2008. It is connected with the Quilters' Guild of the British Isles, the national organisation representing quilt makers, which treats traditional and contemporary work as equally important.
The guild was formed in 1979 and is a charity that promotes the art, history, heritage and techniques of these allied crafts for the public benefit. It is based in St Anthony's Hall, York. Guild membership is open to anyone who makes quilts or is interested in them, and the museum suits visitors with the same interests.
