Every painting in the Seonbawi Museum of Art (선바위미술관) is the work of one man, the late artist Lee Seoji, who also designed and built the museum himself in 2004. Its permanent collection of around 3,000 genre and modern paintings portrays South Korea through Lee's eyes, drawing directly on his own personal experiences.
The museum is described as the only folklore museum in South Korea, and its focus on a single artist's view of the country makes it best suited to visitors interested in Korean genre painting and everyday life as one painter recorded it. It occupies a site of about 2,600 square metres at Munemi-gil in Gwacheon, just outside Seoul. Alongside Lee's own work, it has also hosted exhibitions by other artists, including the calligrapher Chunpa Hong Deok-seon in 2017.
