Bali Safari is the island's branch of the Taman Safari Indonesia group of wildlife parks, and its centrepiece is a drive-through safari in which visitors ride enclosed trams past animals roaming open enclosures rather than viewing them through bars. Locally it is known as Taman Safari Bali, and it lies in Gianyar Regency, east of Denpasar.
The safari route is arranged in zones by region, with animals from Indonesia, India and Africa. Indonesian species are a particular draw, including Komodo dragons and Sumatran tigers, alongside larger mammals such as elephants. Walking areas near the entrance give closer views of some animals.
The park opened in 2007 and draws around 450,000 visitors a year. It suits families with children best, and most visitors set aside at least half a day.
