The only museum in the Middle East dedicated to Japanese art, the Tikotin Museum of Japanese Art stands on the crest of Mount Carmel in Haifa. Its work centres on preserving and exhibiting Japanese art, which makes it the natural stop in the region for visitors drawn to that tradition.
The museum opened in 1959. It was founded on the initiative of Felix Tikotin, from the Netherlands, together with Abba Hushi, who was then mayor of Haifa.
