Vasa Museum

The Vasa Museum (Vasamuseet) displays the only almost fully intact 17th-century ship ever salvaged: the 64-gun warship Vasa, which capsized and sank in Stockholm on her maiden voyage in 1628. After 333 years on the seabed, the ship was raised, and today it ranks among the best-preserved 17th-century ships in the world.

The museum stands on the island of Djurgården in Stockholm and opened in 1990. It is a maritime museum built around this single ship. With more than a million visitors a year, it is one of the most visited museums in Scandinavia.

The Vasa Museum belongs to the Swedish National Maritime, Transport and Military Museums, a group that also includes the Stockholm Maritime Museum.
