Once the guardian of the city's treasury and municipal archives, the Belfry of Bruges (Belfort van Brugge) is a medieval bell tower and one of the most prominent symbols of Bruges. It also served as an observation post, where watchers looked out for fires and other dangers threatening the city.
The tower is built in the Brabantine Gothic style and is noticeably inclined. It stands in the centre of Bruges, forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and now operates as a museum.
