Works by Colombian artist Fernando Botero make up most of the collection at the Botero Museum (Museo Botero), alongside pieces by other international artists that once belonged to Botero's private art collection. The museum opened in 2000, bears the artist's name, and draws more than half a million visitors a year, including about 2,000 students each month.
It stands in Bogotá's La Candelaria neighbourhood and is run by the cultural branch of the Bank of the Republic. It forms part of a cultural complex there with the Gold Museum, the Luis Ángel Arango Library, the Miguel Urrutia Art Museum and the Museo Casa de Moneda, so visitors can pair it with these other institutions nearby.
