Four centuries of German presence in America, from 1600 to the present day, are the subject of the German-American Heritage Museum of the USA, known as GAHM. Its scope reaches beyond Germany itself, also taking in the stories of Swiss, Austrian and Slovakian Americans.
Founded in 2010, the museum occupies Hockemeyer Hall in Washington's Penn Quarter and serves as headquarters of the German-American Heritage Foundation of the USA. Several German and American organizations sponsor it, and it suits visitors interested in immigration history or tracing German-speaking roots in the United States.
