HAM Helsinki Art Museum (Helsingin taidemuseo) looks after the City of Helsinki's art collection of more than 10,000 works, and much of it is found beyond the museum walls. About a quarter of the collection is on display in public places such as parks, streets, schools and libraries. The city owns and runs the museum, which was founded in 1974 and took the name HAM when it reopened after renovations in 2015.
The museum occupies Tennispalatsi in the Kamppi district. It hosts a small permanent exhibition of works by Tove Jansson, including two large frescoes she originally created for the restaurant of Helsinki City Hall.
With more than 110,000 visitors a year, HAM suits admirers of Jansson's art and anyone curious about the public art collection whose works also appear around Helsinki.
