Housed in the historic Conde Duque barracks, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Museum of Contemporary Art) is Madrid's city-owned museum of contemporary art. It was formerly known as the Museo Municipal de Arte Contemporáneo and opened in November 2001. The museum carries Spain's Bien de Interés Cultural designation, the country's highest category of heritage protection.
