Built in the early 2nd century BC about 15 kilometres south of Aswan in Egypt, the Temple of Debod (Templo de Debod) is an ancient Nubian temple that now stands in Madrid's Parque de la Montaña. It is one of the few works of ancient Egyptian architecture relocated outside Egypt and the only one of its kind in Spain.
The Egyptian government gave the temple to Spain in 1968 in gratitude for Spanish participation in the International Campaign to Save the Monuments of Nubia. It was dismantled, shipped and rebuilt in the park between 1970 and 1972, and it now serves as a museum. The temple is protected as a bien de interés cultural, Spain's designation for heritage of particular cultural importance.
