One of the finest guitar collections in the world is the highlight of Barcelona's Music Museum, the Museu de la Música de Barcelona. The guitars belong to a wider collection of about 2,000 musical instruments from around the world, around 500 of which are on display. They range from ancient civilisations to new technologies of the 21st century, alongside biographical documents.
Founded in 1946 and run by the City Council, the museum combines history, conservation and research, and promotes the city's musical heritage. Since 2007 it has occupied the second floor of L'Auditori de Barcelona, the concert venue in the Fort Pienc neighbourhood. It suits guitar enthusiasts and anyone curious about how instruments have developed across cultures and centuries.
