The only museum of its kind in Serbia, Belgrade's Museum of Natural History (Prirodnjački muzej) ranks among the most important natural history museums in South-Eastern Europe. That standing rests on the richness and diversity of the species it exhibits and on its work in museology and science.
It is also one of Serbia's oldest specialised national institutions. It was officially founded in 1895 under the name Natural History Museum of the Serbian Land.
