Founded in 1867 by Queen Isabella II, Spain's National Archaeological Museum, known on signs as the Museo Arqueológico Nacional or MAN, shares its building with the National Library of Spain. It stands on Calle de Serrano beside the Plaza de Colón in Madrid.
The museum is one of the National Museums of Spain and is attached to the Ministry of Culture. It is listed as a monument and protected as a bien de interés cultural, Spain's designation for heritage of cultural significance.
